cinderlite | Good Omens, anyone? [No spoilers!]

Has anyone else watched the newest season of Good Omens yet?

My partner and I watched it separately the day of release, but came together to talk about it after. We've been roleplaying it ever since! It's my newest hyperfixation. I'm absolutely obsessed, and it's all I'm thinking about. It's so nice to have a new hyperfixation again. I missed the motivation that comes with it. I feel like I could do just about anything!

While my partner takes a small break from the roleplay, I'm working on a fic for it (so look out for that! soon!). The fic I'm working on is about Aziraphale's Fall from grace, and the aftermath of it. 😇 I've got about 1,000 words for it so far, but I should finish it some time within the next few days (outside of appointments I have).

It's going to be a relatively short fic, but that's mostly because I'm testing the waters with it. I'm still figuring out what my Aziraphale and Crowley are like and tweaking them until they sound just right.

I'll admit, it's weird to have a ship that's so wholesome. Usually, I can only get into the enemies to lovers dynamic and while that's not wrong for Aziracrow, that aspect is already explored in canon. There's no need to rehash that.

Anyway, I would love to have someone to talk to about Good Omens! It's so good, and I just want to scream about it some more.

I literally could not keep up the steam for that. I would burn out waaaaay too quickly. I find it very impressive that people can do that. I've written for 12 hours a day for a few days and only managed like 8,000 words. Haha, writing is too much like pulling teeth for me. That's not to say that I don't love it, just that it takes a lot of effort from me. Like, for instance, I wrote a Good Omens fic ~~that I regret~~ recently, but it took me like 2 days to write 6,000 words. I was writing very slowly for it because of brain fog.

The struggle is so real! What's the plot for what you're working on? 👀

Writing used to come easier to me than it does now. Sometimes I can get it to flow well, but often I'm only capable of drabbles and ficlets. I have Fibro, so I know all about brain fog. Sometimes I can't even manage to string words together for a 100-word drabble, and I hate it. Especially when one is supposed to *improve* with time, and I know my writing was better ten years ago than now. Frustrating.

I'm working on my version of what might come next with the obligatory post-S2 fix-it. Crowley saving Aziraphale -- or is it the other way around? With some plot twists, and things not being quite what they seem. Some major plot stuff is still evolving though, so it's not surprising that I haven't written too much beyond notes yet. I'd just hoped to get a decent amount done while I had the time, but that's not looking likely since I only have one day off left now.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that! I've never had Fibro, but I've known people who have it and it seems pretty miserable. There's nothing really they can do to help with that, is there? It's so frustrating when you care about something you can do, but you can't seem to improve on it. I'm like that with my art, which is why I rarely bother with it anymore, which is why I don't improve. It just takes too much out of me, I find it too frustrating and disappointing. Every product I produce makes me want to cry because I know I can do better, I just can't seem to do it. It's probably like that, right?

I'm struggle to write drabbles or just ficlets anymor. I talk too much / have too much to say. I average around 5-6k a fic now, which isn't a lot, but it's rising as compared to the ficlets I used to write. I want to write more around 15-20k, though. I like to think I'm improving, but I write so sporadically that I can't tell. I generally am only in the mood to write a few times a year, when I'm hyperfixating on a specific fandom, generally.

You know, the thing I have the hardest time with when creating fic is coming up with the ideas for what I want to write. Once I have the idea, I can outline it, but getting there is the hard part. I really envy people that can just come up with concepts at the drop of a hat. I have to sit and think about it for a long time. I have to bounce ideas off of other people to develop them. That's why my one and only Good Omens fic turned out so sucky, lol. I have a vague idea and just wrote it as it came to me instead of properly plotting it out. I probably could have caught the issue with it ahead of time if I'd really thought about it instead. SIGH. But making mistakes is part of learning, and even though I'm tempted, I'm not going to delete it. I'm just embarrassed by it.

There's no cure for Fibro; just have to 'manage' it, which can be hit or miss.

Drabbles were great for me when I was getting back into writing again and was struggling. Less pressure and easier to manage 100 words, having a prompt for inspiration. 5-6K is a lot for me! LOL. I'm happy if I can do something that's over 1,000 words. I used to write a lot of longer fic, but no more.

It's always easier to write when one is hyper-fixated on something, at least that's my experience. Also, sitting with a plot for awhile, and bouncing ideas off of others can be an enjoyable part of the process. At least I find it so. Sometimes I'll just listen to a playlist I've made up specifically for a fic, and not get many actual words done, but it's all part of the experience for me.

We are sometimes our own worst enemies. If people are commenting and leaving kudos, that obviously means they like it.

I feel that. I have a disease myself which causes pain (and open wounds) for which there is no cure. It's really frustrating. I wish it were less rare and something more people focused on trying to manage, if not cure, because there's nothing for that either.

I'm glad you've found something you can work with! Drabbles and ficlets are great too. I love to read them. Sometimes I even prefer them to longer fic because I have a hard time focusing for that long... or because I can really only read fic if I can finish them in a day, otherwise I lose interest. So Kudos to you for writing at all! It's difficult and you manage, you success, you thrive.

That's a good point. Sometimes, it's a process, and you have to go through with it to get to the end. It's an experience. I never thought of it that way before, but that's a great point.

Yeah, that's true... people are doing exactly that. I appreciate it, too, it's just... I'm embarrassed, I guess. I kind of which they would stop doing so so I could forget about it.

Just wanted to give you a head's up, I'm back to work tomorrow, so my posting frequency will probably go back to twice a week, on my day's off. So you won't wonder why I've been yakking up a storm and then go quiet. ;)

No worries, no offense! There is pain, but at least no open wounds to deal with!

Days off always go so fast! Supposedly all the overtime we've had is easing up, at least. The extra $$ is much needed, but it's not fun having no time for fun things like fandom.

That's true. Bodies can go wrong in all the worst ways, can't they? It's such a pain to deal with.

That's so fair. I hope you get all the money you need upcoming, even if you have to work for it. Overtime isn't fun, but the money is at least good. ♥

The overtime is going away, but I will deal with it and be happy to have more time for fun things again. Besides, in about two months, it will be back as the holiday season starts.
